Neutrinos emerge from some of the universe’s most energetic cosmic events. Though trillions pass through our bodies each second, they are incredibly difficult to detect. Similar to invisible beings that escape our perception, they are also described as “ghost particles”. This participatory sculpture approaches the neutrino as a speculative material protagonist shaped by coincidence and scattering. Through an open-ended process involving the gradual melting of coloured, ghost-shaped ice forms onto paper, the work traces the subtle tremors these particles might leave behind.
Selina Rudolph started studying physics in 2020 TUM Munich. During her BA thesis, she began working on neutrino physics, which influenced her master’s courses and thesis at Prof. Resconi’s chair. Her research focuses on understanding the data from the POCAM calibration devices to further characterize the antarctic ice, helping improve how neutrino events are reconstructed.
Jiwon Song is an artist based in Munich. Her practice draws from folklore, and the invisible worlds of memory and imagination to explore the life of forgotten beings, ghosts and objects as spiritual beings. Working across sculpture and drawing, she reanimates discarded objects into playtul yet uncanny hybrids. She is currently studying painting at AdBK Munich.
